Welcome Back-Up Care Families!

Our non-traditional, mixed ages, one-room, licensed center enables true team teaching and allows all staff to be with the children.

First Visit Reminders

  • Enroll in KidsPark online before your visit so we have your child’s health information on file and all required state licensing forms completed and signed. The $40 registration fee is waived with a back-up care approved contract. Please also check with your center to confirm whether immunization records are required.
  • Since we are open to the public, back-up care reservations are held for 15 minutes in case other families need care. On most days, there is lots of space and arriving late is not an issue. However, we do fill up quickly on school holidays. If you arrive after the 15-minute hold and we are at capacity, your child will be placed on our waitlist.
  • We are a shoeless play environment, so children are required to wear socks, or a pair can be purchased on-site.
  • Bring diapers and/or extra clothes for children who are potty training, and be sure to label all belongings.
  • Unsupervised cubbies are available in the lobby for shoes and jackets. We are not responsible for any items left in this area.
  • We also ask that children leave personal electronics at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Short answer:  HAVE FUN!

Long answer:  That’s up to them. KidsPark allows free choice around structured staff-led activities within our various play areas. Activities like art and crafts, fitness, S.T.E.A.M. activities, and cooking are all on the list at KidsPark.

Kids can participate in the area of their choice: Creation Station, Mountain of Energy, Activity Area, Blue Crew (for school agers) and Theater.

Short answer: Our KidsPark staff are energetic, creative people who enjoy interacting with children and have experience in early childhood education.

Long answer: Our staff provides a safe, fun center for your kids and they are also:

  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Screened by the Department of Justice
  • Trained in Early Childhood Education and Recreation
  • Required to attend staff development and skill-building workshops and classes

Short answer: Kids may have the opportunity to play video games in a social setting. The games are kid-friendly and designed for multiple players to encourage cooperative play.

Teachers ensure that each child only plays for a limited amount of time and that turns are shared.

If you prefer that your child not participate in video game activities, please let the teacher know at check-in. We will do our best to redirect your child to other engaging activities instead.

Long answer:  We have a TV in our theater room. Age appropriate shows, movies, and movement programs are offered periodically throughout the day. Generally, kids only watch a few minutes of TV to rest and recharge before they jump into one of the many fun activities in the center.

  • It is good to remember, some children in a new setting are comforted to see something familiar.  It is also one way to calm children or bring the energy level down.
  • Our Blue Crew room is a special, additional space for school aged children to socialize with peers, participate in detailed art, age-appropriate games, and non-violent video games.

Short answer:  For young children, we suggest a tour or short visit before kids are left for a full day.  Kids thrive at KidsPark and can’t wait to come back.

Long answer:  You know your child best and how they react to new experiences.  They may be joiners, watchers, explorers, or resisters. We assist each child to make his or her transition easy and positive.

Short answer:  Rest times vary by center.

Long answer: KidsPark is a flexible, drop-in child care program, and children arrive throughout the day. Because of our unique model, not all centers offer a scheduled nap time.

Children who are tired are always welcome to rest in a designated quiet area. Some centers may also offer a scheduled rest period for certain age groups.

If a formal nap schedule is important for your child, please contact your local KidsPark center to learn about their specific rest and nap-time procedures.

Short answer:  KidsPark serves complimentary crackers and apple juice snacks at 10am and 3pm.  Meals can be purchased or brought from home.

Long answer: KidsPark follows state licensing guidelines for meal requirements and serving sizes based on the child’s age. If you feel your child may need additional food beyond what is provided, please pack a nut-free meal or snack.

Be sure to check the daily menu before your visit to see what will be served.

How Did KidsPark Begin?

“In 1988, KidsPark was the original “disrupter” in traditional childcare in California.  I introduced licensed, hourly care. Why? Quite simply, because I needed it…”

– Debbie Milner, Founder and CEO

…An advisor told me to find the service or product that was missing from my life. I needed childcare on demand, without reservations, when you need it days, evenings and weekends.  It became my niche and passion.

Was I the only Mom that couldn’t juggle it all? (Let me know – send an email.)  I was new to California, didn’t have any family in the area, worked full-time as an Information Systems for HP, my husband traveled a great deal and I had Rita, a 2-year old.  Yikes!

I just needed a few hours here and there to take care of errands, get a haircut, see a doctor, or have some down-time. I tried finding a babysitter, but I never remembered to schedule one early enough and couldn’t find one on the spur of the moment.  Plus, I felt better leaving Rita with an adult than a teenager and I wanted her to have other children to play with.  When my research confirmed it wasn’t just me, other families needed hourly care, I moved forward.  I spent a year figuring out how it could work and raising some capital.

The KidsPark Mission was Formed

Creating a company was very important to me.  I wanted to control my work life.  I was a latchkey kid, so my hot button was to be home in the afternoon with my daughter.  My version of life-work balance was to work before she got up, while she was at school, and then when she was in bed.  When she was little, she came to work with me. Remember, this was back in 1988, before flex-time and job-sharing.

Being able to control one’s schedule resonates throughout KidsPark.  Three times a year, we ask our teachers when they want to work. We build our schedule around their requests. This way a mom can work days when her children are in school and switch to evenings for the summer when school is out.  Or college students can change their schedules each semester depending on their courses.  I think this has helped us build a strong team – we have teachers who have been with us for 20+ years!
